  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings

Ingredients

– 1 (20-ounce) loaf of white bread torn into bite-sized pieces

– 1 pound of pork sausage

– 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter

– 1 diced yellow onion

– 4 minced garlic cloves

– 1 cup of diced celery (about 3 stalks)

– 1 1/4 teaspoons of poultry seasoning

– A dash of white pepper

– Plenty of salt to taste

– Plenty of black pepper to taste

– 1 1/2 cups of chicken stock

Instructions

1-First, tear the 1 (20-ounce) loaf of white bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large bowl. This helps the bread soak up all the yummy flavors later. Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF to get it ready for baking.

2-Next, cook the 1 pound of pork sausage in a pan until it’s fully done, then add it to the bread bowl. Don’t drain the drippings they add extra taste. In the same pan, toss in the 1/2 cup of butter, 1 diced yellow onion, 4 minced garlic cloves, 1 cup of diced celery, 1 1/4 teaspoons of poultry seasoning, a dash of white pepper, and plenty of salt and black pepper. Cook this mix until the vegetables are tender and everything smells amazing.

3-Once that’s ready, pour the mixture into the bowl with the bread and sausage. Gradually stir in the 1 1/2 cups of chicken stock until the bread is nice and moist. Transfer everything to a greased 2 1/2 quart casserole dish and bake it uncovered for 25-30 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when the top is crispy and the inside stays moist.

4-Preheat oven and prep bread

5-Cook sausage and add to bowl

6-Sautรฉ vegetables and seasonings

7-Mix and add stock

8-Bake until perfect

Notes

๐Ÿฅ– For the best texture, let the torn bread pieces sit out overnight to dry slightly – this helps them absorb the flavors without becoming mushy
๐ŸŒฟ Be generous with seasoning since the large quantity of bread can dilute flavors – taste and adjust before baking for the perfect balance
๐ŸงŠ This stuffing can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated – just add 10-15 minutes to the baking time and add a splash extra stock if needed
