How to Create a Walmart Charcuterie & Cheese Board Under a $35 Budget
A show stopping cheese board does not require a trip to a specialty cheese shop. I learned that the expensive way after years of overpaying at boutique counters, and now Walmart is my first stop before every cookout, birthday party, and holiday gathering.
You can build a board that feeds a crowd for under $35, and the picks in this guide are the ones I reach for again and again.
This plan works for Memorial Day, the 4th of July, game days, and plain Friday nights when neighbors drop by. You will find styling secrets, affordable boards and tools, a full shopping list, two complete board builds with real prices, seasonal ideas, and drink pairings.
Everything comes from one store, so you shop once and still look like you spent three times as much.

Charcuterie Board Styling Secrets
Before you buy a single cracker, think about how the board will look. These four principles do most of the heavy lifting, and none of them cost extra money.
Visual balance. Never park two foods of the same color side by side. Green grapes next to green olives read as one big green blob, so separate them with something like cheese or salami. Cheeses are usually white or cream colored, so space them out and let brighter items fill the gaps between them.
Mix textures. A board is more fun to eat when every bite feels different. Pair shiny, snappy grapes with crumbly, soft cheese and juicy, silky olives. That contrast is exactly what makes people come back for one more bite.
Use herbs. Fresh rosemary and thyme work as visual dividers when two items are too similar in color or texture. They also mark the boundary between flavor profiles, so a savory pile of cheese and charcuterie does not run straight into sweet chocolate or cookies.
I keep a $4 pack of rosemary on hand for this reason, because it can make a $40 board look like a $100 board.
Follow the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds divides an image into a nine square grid. Instead of centering everything, place key elements along those grid lines.
Put your hero items, meaning the largest or most eye catching pieces, off center rather than in the middle, and keep bigger items like ramekins away from dead center too. Your eye travels around the board naturally and the whole thing looks more balanced.
Walmart Entertaining Essentials
Walmart is where I stock up on the practical pieces: wooden boards, utensils, and disposable serveware that can match a party theme without eating into the food budget. Match the board size to your guest count so the food always looks abundant.
- Mainstays 8.5 x 11 inch bamboo cutting board: good for 2 to 4 people.
- The larger 11 x 24.5 inch Mainstays board: good for 6 to 10 people.
- Better Homes & Gardens Acacia board: good for 6 to 8 people.
- A set of two wooden boards: handy for a large crowd.
- Better Homes & Gardens board plus cheese knives set: affordable and photogenic.
- Mainstays Cheese Knives Set: all the staples at a good price.
- Pioneer Woman round scalloped board and rectangular scalloped board: pretty options for themed parties.
Cheese Board Hack
If you do not want to buy a new board and cannot find one big enough for your party, you have two easy fixes. Put two boards together so they read as one long surface, or use a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
I have used the baking sheet trick for a backyard 4th of July spread, and nobody noticed once the food was piled on top.
Budget Charcuterie Board Shopping List for Walmart
This list builds a board for 6 to 10 people and lands between $35 and $45 depending on what you already have at home.
| Category | How much to buy | Budget |
|---|---|---|
| Cheese | 3 to 4 types | $12 to $15 |
| Meats | 1 to 2 types | $5 to $10 |
| Produce | 2 types | $7 to $9 |
| Carbs | 1 to 2 packages | $4 to $7 |
| Nuts, spreads, sweets and accoutrements | 2 to 3 items | $6 to $8 |
Three habits keep the total down. Buy whole cheese blocks or logs instead of precut cheese, because you pay extra for someone else’s knife work.
If you are still over budget, double up on cheap fillers like grapes so the board looks generous for less money. And it is smart to splurge on one or two focal items, such as a brie wheel or prosciutto, then keep everything else affordable.
Walmart swaps also make the fancy items reachable:
| Instead of | Buy this at Walmart |
|---|---|
| Manchego | Great Value Aged White Cheddar |
| Le Fromager | Emporium Selection Brie Wheel |
| Imported fig jam | Great Value Raspberry Preserves |
A brie wheel at Walmart can cost about half of what a specialty store charges, and the money you save is what pays for the honey and chocolate that make the board feel fancy.
Rectangular Walmart Charcuterie Board Ingredients
The two boards below are not wildly different, so pick the one that matches the board you already own.

Both use Marketside charcuterie meats, a mix of cheeses, and a few add ons. This first version is built for a rectangular board.
Cheese
- Sartori Merlot Belavitano, a hard cheese, sliced: $5.48
- Marketside Garlic & Herb Goat Cheese, a soft cheese: $2.97
- Castello Havarti, a semi soft cheese, sliced: $4.96
Meat
Marketside Peppercorn Salami, folded: $4.24.
Carbs
Good Thins Crackers: $3.58.
Produce
Green grapes: $3.89. Raspberries: $2.47.
Accoutrements
Delallo Pitted Olive Jubilee: $4.94. Honey roasted peanuts: $1.97.

The total comes to $34.50 plus tax. These prices reflect the Los Angeles area as of November 2025 and may vary slightly at your local Walmart.

How to Make a Cheap Charcuterie Board: Option #1
Work corner to corner and the board basically builds itself.

- Fan the Belavitano in the top left corner of the board.
- Fan the Havarti in the opposite corner.
- Add the goat cheese to the bottom left quadrant.
- Put the olives and the nuts in separate ramekins and set them on the board, one in front of each fanned cheese.
- Place the grapes in the two remaining empty corners.
- Fan the crackers around one ramekin and one pile of grapes.
- Arrange the raspberries on both sides of the ramekins.
- Fill any empty spaces with the salami.
This layout is forgiving, which is why I use it for casual parties. If a gap opens up, salami fills it and the board still looks intentional.

Round Walmart Charcuterie Board Ingredients
This round version leans sweeter. It includes honey and chocolate, which the rectangular board does not.

Honey earns its place for flavor and for the glossy drizzle that doubles as decoration, and a little something sweet balances all that salty cheese and cured meat. Round boards also photograph beautifully, so this is the one I bring to a holiday table.
Cheese
- Sartori Montamore Cheddar, broken into chunks: $4.17
- Boursin: $2.58
- Marketside Blue Cheese Wedge: $3.78
Meat
Marketside Peppercorn Salami, folded: $4.24.
Carbs
Bettergoods sea salt and olive oil flatbread crackers: $3.22.
Produce
Green grapes: $3.89. Raspberries: $2.47.
Accoutrements
Bettergoods Oat Chocolate Bar with Tart Cherries & Pistachios: $4.44. Blue Diamond Honey Roasted Almonds: $2.97. Honey from your pantry.

The total comes to $31.76 plus tax. Prices are for the Los Angeles area as of November 2025 and may vary slightly at local Walmart stores.

How to Make a Cheap Charcuterie Board: Option #2
This one starts at the edges and works inward, which keeps the center free for the salami pile.

- Space the cheeses out around the edges of the board.
- Place the honey and the nuts in separate ramekins toward the center, one in front of the cheddar and the other beside the blue cheese.
- Set the crackers between the blue cheese and the Boursin.
- Arrange the grapes and raspberries around the edge, filling the gaps between cheeses.
- Layer the salami in a pile in the center.
- Fill the remaining empty spaces with chocolate.
Seasonal Walmart Charcuterie Board Ideas
This budget board works all year, but you can nudge it toward a season or a theme. Watch the total while you shop, because these swaps can push you past the $35 mark.
- Summer Picnic Board: fresh berries, lemon or herby hummus, honey, and colorful veggies. Pair with lemonade or iced tea.
- Fall Harvest Board: pumpkin hummus, roasted delicata squash, apple slices, and pomegranate seeds. Pair with hot apple cider or mulled wine.
- Holiday Board: peppermint bark, cranberries (sugared if you like), candied pecans, ginger snaps, and rosemary sprigs. Pair with a full bodied red wine or a Snow Globe Cocktail.
- Game Day Board: Buffalo chicken dip, pretzels, beer cheese, and chicken wings. Pair with beer or soda.
Alternative Walmart Cheese Board Ingredients
Walmart carries real variety in every cheese board category, from familiar brands to newer labels at better prices. Here are my favorite finds, sorted the way I actually shop the store.

Cheese
- Great Value Aged White Cheddar: classic, sharp, and affordable.
- Emporium Selection Brie Wheel: mild, creamy, and a classic choice.
- Marketside Brie Cheese Wheel: makes a fancy centerpiece.
- Marketside Smoked Gouda: mild, versatile, and kid friendly.
- Babybel Minis or Laughing Cow Wedges: easy individual servings.
- Sam’s Choice Manchego: sophisticated and under $6.
- Emporium Selection Goat Cheese Logs, often fruit or herb coated: tangy, creamy, and colorful.
- Marketside Fresh Mozzarella Slices or Pearls: great for snacking.
Meats
- Hillshire Farm Genoa Salami: presliced and affordable.
- Citterio Pepperoni and Citterio Prosciutto: ideal for folding or making rosettes.
- Sam’s Choice Hard Salami: balances flavor and price.
- Sam’s Choice Italian Dry Salame Trio: affordable variety.
- Hormel Gatherings Party Tray (Meat & Cheese): a time saving hack for last minute hosts.
One money saving tip: buy a larger pack of a single meat, like Hillshire Farm salami, and fold it several different ways. You get the look of variety without buying four different packages.
Fruits & Veggies
Fresh red and green grapes give you instant color contrast. Mini cucumbers, baby carrots, and snap peas add crunch, while Marketside Fresh Fruit Medley or the Berry Trio Pack and precut veggie trays save you time on party day.
Dried cranberries, apricots, or mango bring texture, and a bag of Cara Cara oranges or clementines fills empty space for very little money.
One trick I use around the holidays: Walmart’s online grocery platform can be searched by color, so typing red and green is a fast way to curate a festive board.
TIP: Seasonal Produce
In season produce usually tastes better and costs less, which is exactly what a $35 board needs.
- Spring: strawberries, blackberries, apricots, and kiwi.
- Summer: watermelon, cantaloupe, cherries, peaches, plums, and berries.
- Fall: apples, grapes, cranberries, and raspberries.
- Winter: apples, pears, beets, pomegranates, and herbs.
Carbs
Crackers are where a lot of boards quietly overspend, so keep it simple and mix textures.
- Great Value Entertainment Cracker Variety Pack: a dependable go to.
- Marketside Baguette or French Bread Loaf: slice and toast it for a rustic, hearty option.
- Triscuits, Wheat Thins, or Ritz: familiar, affordable, and crunchy.
- Pepperidge Farm Distinctive Crackers: classic and buttery.
- Marketside Pita Chips with Sea Salt: crispy and built for dipping.
- Great Value Crostini or Toasted Rounds: seasonal, hearty, and crunchy.
Pick 2 to 3 kinds so you get a mix of crispy, buttery, and hearty textures instead of three boxes of the same thing.
Nuts, Spreads, & Accoutrements
This is the category that makes a cheap board feel generous, and Walmart covers it well.
- Great Value Mixed Nuts or Honey Roasted Almonds.
- Marketside Hummus Trio.
- Great Value Fig Spread or Raspberry Preserves.
- Sam’s Choice Olives & Pickles Tray: ready to serve.
- Marketside fresh rosemary or thyme for garnish.
- Great Value Honey Bear or Organic Raw Honey Jar.
- Marketside Spinach & Artichoke Dip.
- Sam’s Choice Olive Medley or Antipasto Tray: ready to serve.
- Great Value Fig Spread, Strawberry Preserves, or Hot Pepper Jelly.
- Marketside Guacamole Cups.
Seasonal stems, such as Marketside Fresh Flowers, add a fresh accent for a few dollars.
Sweets & Treats
A small sweet corner keeps guests grazing longer, and it does not take much.

- Great Value Chocolate Covered Pretzels or Almonds.
- Marketside Mini Brownies, Cookies, or Cheesecake Bites.
- Great Value Caramel Corn or Kettle Corn.
- Great Value Milk & Dark Chocolate Bars, broken into chunks.
- Peppermint Bark or other seasonal Walmart treats.
- Bakery Sugar Cookies or Frosted Gingerbread Men.
Walmart Board Beverage Pairings
Walmart carries a wide range of drinks, and depending on your state it may also sell beer and hard drinks. For a party, I usually set out two options so guests can pick.
My favorite Walmart brand picks are Marketside Lemonade, Clear American Sparkling Water, Bettergoods Jalapeno Limeade, Bettergoods Italian Sparkling Mineral Water, Bettergoods Organic Watermelon Mint Lemonade, and Great Value Blueberry Lemonade.
Put them in a bucket of ice next to the board and the whole table looks styled.

My goal here is simple: to send you into Walmart with a plan, a budget, and the confidence that a beautiful board is within reach. These tips and swaps are the same ones I use when I am feeding a crowd and watching every dollar.
If you build one of these boards, snap a photo and share it, because seeing what other home cooks create with budget friendly finds is my favorite part of this whole hobby.
