Small Batch Scones Welcome to the wonderful world of small batch baking! If you have found yourself baking for just one or two people lately, you know the struggle of dealing with massive recipes and endless leftovers.

Ingredients

0.5 cup self raising flour
1.5 teaspoons caster sugar
1 pinch salt
20 grams cold butter
0.25 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon milk, for brushing the tops

Instructions

1-Preheat the oven to 200C: Preheat the oven to 200C.
2-Place the flour, sugar and salt in: Place the flour, sugar and salt in a bowl and stir to combine.
3-Cut the butter into small pieces and: Cut the butter into small pieces and rub it into the flour with your fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
4-Pour the buttermilk in, and stir together: Pour the buttermilk in, and stir together with a butter knife or pallet knife until the dough comes together.
5-Tip onto a lightly floured surface and: Tip onto a lightly floured surface and press the dough into a rectangle of about 4 centimetres thickness.
6-Cut into four squares using a sharp: Cut into four squares using a sharp knife. Press straight up and down and don’t use a back-and-forth sawing motion. (This is to help the scones rise as best they can).
7-Place the squares onto a baking tray: Place the squares onto a baking tray lined with baking paper, with a couple of centimetres space in between.
8-Brush the tops with milk if desired: Brush the tops with milk if desired.
9-Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
10-Allow to cool slightly and serve with: Allow to cool slightly and serve with jam and cream.
